How to Clean & Maintain Pure Brass Idols for Enduring Lustre
Pure brass (Pital) is considered one of the purest metals for invoking divine energies because of its high acoustic vibration and sacred gold-like aura. However, being an alloy of copper and zinc, brass naturally reacts with oxygen, moisture, and incense smoke over time, forming a dark patina. Here is the authentic, non-abrasive method practiced in Indian temples for centuries.
The Traditional Pitambari & Lemon Water Method
Mix 1 teaspoon of gentle Pitambari powder or wheat flour with a few drops of fresh lemon juice into a soft paste. Gently apply this over the idol using your fingertips or a soft piece of cotton cloth. Allow it to sit for no more than 60 to 90 seconds.
Rinse thoroughly with clean lukewarm water, making sure no residue remains in the engraved crevices. Crucial Step: Immediately pat completely dry with a soft microfiber towel. Leaving water droplets to air dry causes dark water spotting.
Preventing Tarnish with Lacquer Care
All premium idols from Divine Ganesh Ji Idols receive a micro-thin transparent lacquer sealant at our workshop. To maintain this protective coat, simply dust the idol with a dry microfiber cloth every morning before aarti. Never use steel wool or harsh chemical detergents, as they scratch the protective glaze.
